Desperate Transsexuals
Since I started this Blog on October 20, 2003, I feel this is - by far- one of the most important entries that I have ever made.
Last night, CBS Television aired its popular "CSI," with the episode focusing on the murder of a Post-op (M2F) Transsexual. I thought it was handled extremely well and delved into many serious issues. CBS really should receive an award for their excellent presentation, as it went far beyond anything you've seen before, in a virtually fact-filled environment.
"CSI" also took up the issues of illegal SRS (sex reassignment surgery) performed by unlicensed butchers, as well as today's
popular (and highly dangerous) silicone "pumping parties."
Now here's where I get going...On a regular basis, I receive actual reports of such activities, and it makes me sick.
The world of a Transsexual can be desperate, and sometimes TS's seek desperate measures to accomplish their goals. These measures can, indeed, leave them considerably worse off than
before, or even dead.
Many Transsexuals are driven to take such actions, akin to pregnant females when abortion was illegal...A coathanger in a back alley. A PERFECT analogy, here.
But you probably ask why even a desperate person would stoop to such measures when SRS is not illegal? Its because the system has basically FAILED us, overall. To obtain SRS, one must follow strict guidleines set out by the antiquated "Harry Benjamin Standards of Care," providing one with additional years of torment and torture. Although it probably drives many TS's to actually consider suicide (or carry it out), I'm sure this makes many mental healthcare providers, doctors, and surgeons MUCH money.
TS's have to jump through all the stupid and unnecessary hoops to become what we should have been all along.
Yet, as I've mentioned before, anybody with a wad of cash can walk into a plastic surgery clinic and come out with his or her face looking like a cat or space creature, with NO second thoughts by anyone involved, and no questions asked, just "sign here." But if you're a Transsexual, be prepared for years and years of "playing the game," making you more depressed and more desperate.
Would I consider (pardon the pun) cut rate surgery in a back alley warehouse? If it was between that and suicide, I'd take the chance. AND, if you are a healthcare professional: Print this out, take it
to your collegues, and read it again and again!
