Sex Change Fish

Water companies in the UK have reportedly been asked to look into ways of removing traces of female contraceptive pills from sewage effluent, after the there was widespread evidence of sex changes in river fish.

An Environment Agency survey of 1,500 fish in 42 rivers in England apparently discovered over a third of male fish exhibited female characteristics.

The agency reported that male fish with advanced changes in their sexual organs are unable to reproduce, and could cause potentially serious problems for fish populations.
